Highs and Lows

Being a research grad student is tough.
it is way harder than just reading for some exam and passing.
Way more is expected of you, you have to think outside the box, understand that being a research student means you arent expected to have all the answers, you are just expected to know how to find then every time the question is asked.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it? - Albert Einstein
Research is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what no one else has thought - Albert Szent-Gyoergi
I am barely a month into this semester, and i have hit rock bottom more than i can count, ive gone to bed seeing my inadequacies and woken up regretting my decision to go into research, i have had high moments when i finally find the solution to something, or debug a code or just even little times when i understand what the hell a code is talking about.
I have felt useless and it has been alien, i have never had problems with school before, and this last month especially the last few weeks have taken me through highs and a lot of lows.
The one thing i have learnt is that as a research student you will eventually figure it out, its our job, we will probe and probe until we find a solution.
stare at that line of code or that foreign simulator until it makes sense.
and while we may drive those around us crazy with worry, and maybe even piss a few people off, when we are eventually done, the people that love us will have gone through as much stress as we did.
