The benefits of paying tithe

*LONG BUT WORTHWHILE POST ALERT*

A
ccording to the dictionary a tithe is A tenth part of one's annual income contributed voluntarily or due as a tax, especially for the support of the clergy or church.
Even the Koran encourages Muslims to pay tithes albeit its only 2.5% so we all have no excuse,

When i did my industrial training i had the opportunity to earn my very first salary, as a tradition in Nigeria, that salary was shared towards all that have made an impact in my life.
While sharing the money i decided to go give fraction to my neighbor, so i went over to her house and presented her with the money, she was happy for me and even prayed for me after the prayer she asked me if i put tithe to God, i said no she then proceeded to advice me on the benefits of paying tithes, she gave me so much testimonies about how God blessed her richly cos she paid tithes, and she also backed her story up with a scripture from the bible

The
book of Malachi has some of the most quoted Biblical versus on tithing, Malachi 3:8-12. Jews, Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christians who tithe, understand that no man may outdo God in the act of charity. These verses talk about the supposed cause and effect of tithing. If one gives to God, they are to be blessed, where if one refuses to give they will be cursed. They also refer back to the storehouses mentioned in Nehemiah. (Malachi 3:8-12):

8 Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, ‘How are we robbing thee?’ In your tithes and offerings.
9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing me; the whole nation of you.
10 Bring the full tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house; and thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you an overflowing blessing.
11 I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil; and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the LORD of hosts.
12 Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the LORD of hosts.
Anyway at that time in my life i had just concluded my 4th year at the university and i was awaiting the results, you see i would describe myself as a very brilliant person, but somehow my academics never seem to fit that description, i had a year to go at school and i just had to graduate with a second class upper or my father would just massacre me,
During my 4th year in school TY and i decided to do a complete 180 degrees to our attitude towards reading, we then formed study groups and started reading hard but it didn't stop us from being worried about the results, because in Uniben (say u read no mean say u go pass),
we were both averaging on a 2.2 result and it was obvious that it will take a miracle to make 2.1,
so when i got back to school for my 5th and final year. i decided that i was going to start paying tithes from my allowances, i told TY about it and we both started paying 10% of our monthly allowance to the church we attended in school.
By the time my 4th year results came out i had a g.p of 4.28 for that year alone, i went ballistic, i was someone whose result had only entered 2.1 in my 1st year( and thats because we were still doing sec school stuffs) an even then i just barely a had g.p of 3.57(just barely crossing 2.1)

it was a miracle, i became convinced to study more and i believed that God was really blessing me, by the time TY's result came out , he didn't even cross the 2.1 line, it brought my spirit down, he almost gave up on school cos his family would have been really disappointed if he didn't make it, because he was living a really comfortable life as a student and all his needs where being met( and i mean all, he had a car , all d money he needed and d occasional trip abroad for hols)
i encouraged him to continue that all wasn't lost, after all we served a living God,

So we calculated our cumulative G.P.A, and realized that he needed a 4.0 g.p in final year to make a 2.1 result, we continued paying our tithes and reading and left the rest to God,

and you wouldn't believe it at the end of our final year i made a staggering 4.85 g.p, and t.y made (yes he did) a 4.0 g.p on the dot.
it was amazing he was someone who hadn't made a 2.1 result in his entire time in school.
God is really wonderful.

I ended up graduating with 2.1 in computer engineering with a g.p of 4.1
and TY graduating with 2.1 in mechanical engineering and a g.p of 3.6.
it was the best time in our lives we celebrated our graduation in a big way, the benefits of paying tithes cannot be measured,
You don't have any excuse most of us are working or schooling or at least u have a form of allowance coming in for each month, just put aside 10% for God.
DON'T ROB HIM.

I totally feel you on this post, you speak the truth my sister. I really do try my best to pay my tithes as often as I can. That 10% is for God, and we should not rob him. preach it!

According God's Word the biblical tithe is always only food from inside Israel. Although money was common even in Genesis and essential for sanctuary worship, money was never included in 16 texts which describe the CONTENTS of the tithe. Jesus, Peter and Paul did not qualify as tithe-payers and neither did the poor or those who lived outside of Israel.

Biblical tithes could only be used to pay Levites and priests who, in turn, were not allowed to own or inherit property. Biblical tithes could not be used for building expenses or missions. Period. Fact. Num 18.

Was the lady in Nigeria receiving so much from tithing that she had "overflowing blessings" more than she could store? I doubt it. If tithing worked, then thousands in the ghettos who have been "tithing" for generations would have escaped the ghettos.

Malachi 3:8-12 is terribly abused. God never commanded OT Israel to share its covenant with the Gentiles and God never commanded the New Covenant Church to tithe. The whole law was a test --not merely tithing. Obey ALL to be blessed; break ONE to be cursed. Galatians 3:10 replaces Malachi 3:10 but it is ignored by most.

???Jews, Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christians who tithe??

(1) Modern Jews do not teach tithing because they have no temple or priesthood. (2) Catholics did not begin to teach tithing as a universal law until AD 777. (3) Greek Orthodox do not teach tithing. (4) Most USA Protestants did not begin to teach tithing until about 1895. Read history.

??If one gives to God, they are to be blessed, where if one refuses to give they will be cursed??

You act as if you are still a Jew and still obligated to the OT Law. Then please blot Galatians 3:10-13 and Romans 7:4 from your Bible. Those commanded to bring tithes to the Temple in Mal 3:10 were every priest in the nation who had stolen from God per Mal 1:6; 2:1. Proof. Read Nehemiah 10:37-38. The people were commanded to bring their tithes to the Levitical cities. Both the OT temple and priesthood have been replaced by the priesthood of every believer.

You credit the act of tithing for raising your level of intelligence to get better grades. That is not an "intelligent" conclusion. Your better grades are the result of better study habits and dedication to serve God with your mind per Romans 12:1-2.

The blessings received by Christians were bought and paid for at Calvary, not by the Law from Mt Sinai. God does not bless us via a replaced covenant.

NT giving is primarily sacrificial. For many that means more than 10%. For others it is less.

My PHD dissertation was on the subject of tithing.

wo wo , russell, break and take a chill pill, i am not enforcing my beliefs on anybody, this is a blog and i am writing of my xperiences in life, i never attributed my success solely to tithing as u would have read i stepped up my reading and even formed study groups, i only said my academic life turned around when i started tithing, we ll have our own ways of
interpreting d bible and just cos u wrote thesis on tithing doesnt make u an expert i beg to differ,
i read Galatians 3.10 and i don't see where it says tithing is against d law of God for new churches, it only says we are free of curses, thanks be to God for that (thats why i say we all interpret in our own way), i am no authority on the bible either and we all learn everyday, the curses may have been removed but the blessings remain so i still say tithing is a fruitful endeavor.
and u obviously didn't school in Nigeria if u think that reading alone without God will help u succeed.
PS i also do not believe that people should pay tithe expecting something in return, God sees our hearts.
PSS i also don't believe that tithes are used for building projects thats what all the numerous building and whatever funds we contribute to are there for, it still goes to feeding th ministers or are u the one feeding them.
In any case thanks for stopping by it was very enlightening

PSSS i am still trying to open ur site to figure what u are all about.

and by the way it looks liek u keep interpreting the bible to soothe ur needs, nehemiah 10 38-39 continued to say that teh levites should take the tithes to the house of God, that we shall not forsakethe house of our God.
and i see no place in malachi 3, where it says that it referred to the priest in chapters 1 and 2, instead it is talking of God sending a messenger to purge the levis of their sins so that the offerings may b acceptable to him,and of him coming to judge the evil and those not paying tithes, pls dnt quote from the bible when u havent read it well.

AliceDCL said...

scratch that
i can see from your blog and website that ur mission in life is too disrepute tithing plzzz dnt do it on my blog, stick to ur website or blog
thanks

It was not easy to convince me to pay tithes. but then I realized that giving something to God out of the much He had blessed me with was just a sign of gratitude.

then after reading about tithes and being faithful to it, I can boldly say I never regretted making that decision.

Very nice post sister..but is very long post....
How re u doing? Kisses.

Got you...I must say thank you so much for all your comments over at my end.

What a wonderful story about tithes. I agree with you whole heartedly...but do you know another reason, I think, in my humble opinion you made the grades, it for the simple reason of adjusting your mindset.

You spoke it, believed it, acted it and left the rest to God to complete.

A very well done to you. I thoroughly enjoyed your post.

And by the way, it is equally tough being a man? I can not begin to tell you the reasons....lolll

God bless
